How to install the KPH VPN Client

Uninstall any previous versions

If you have previously used our VPN service then the older version should be stopped and uninstalled before continuing:

  • First, stop the service as normal by right-clicking the kphservices/Openvpn-GUI tray icon and selecting 'Disconnect'.
  • Then, right-click the tray icon and select 'Exit'.
  • Next, use the normal Windows Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel to remove the kphservices VPN Client.

Installation

To install the new software you should start by downloading your personal VPN installer, which includes all the required software and certificates.

You personal VPN installer is available for download under 'Attached Files' on the home page of your client area.

Simply double-click the installer to start installation and then follow the prompts.

You should generally accept the default options unless you have a good reason not to.

IMPORTANT:

If you are running Windows 7 then you must to follow these steps before installation:

  • Right-Click the installer
  • Select 'Properties'
  • On the 'Compatibility' tab select 'Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows Vista'
  • Under 'Privilege Level' select 'Run this program as an administrator'
  • Click the 'OK' button'
  • Then double-click the installer to start the installation and proceed as above

IMPORTANT:

During installation on any version of Windows you may be asked whether to install an unsigned driver for the virtual network adapter. If you are prompted then you must select "Continue Anyway" or the installation will fail.

Post Install

IMPORTANT:

If you are running Windows 7 then you must to follow these steps after installation:

  • Navigate to the installation directory ('C:\Program Files\KPHServices' by default)
  • In the 'bin' subdirectory you will find 'openvpn-gui.exe'
  • Right-Click 'openvpn-gui.exe'
  • Select 'Properties'
  • Under 'Privilege Level' select 'Run this program as an administrator'
  • Click 'OK'

Usage Notes

After installation the VPN client GUI will start and an icon will appear in the System Tray on your Taskbar. Right-click it for options. The commands available are:

  • 'Connect' to connect to the VPN
  • 'Disconnect' to disconnect from the VPN
  • 'Reconnect' to restart an existing connection

When the VPN is active all of your network traffic will pass over it. You do not have to configure any of your software or applications.

You can verify that your traffic is going over the VPN tunnel by visiting WhatIsMyIP.com, or any other IP address checker.

You may uninstall the service at any time by using Windows' Add/Remove Programs utility and selecting the "KPH Services VPN Client".
